Do I need Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)?

PAT Testing makes businesses safer and provides peace of mind. The Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) states that “All Employers have a legal obligation to establish and maintain reasonable measures to ensure the safety of staff and visitors to their premises. If an accident occurred due to faulty electrical equipment the employer is duty bound to prove sufficient measures have been taken.”

The Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) requires “All electrical systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, any danger”. This covers the regular Portable Appliance Testing or “PAT testing”. The Regulations also states “It is the duty of every employer and self employed person to comply with the provision of these Regulations.”

At Testing solutions we provide a PAT Testing Service covering Cardiff, Swansea and the surrounding areas of South and West Wales. In this role we count many Blue Chip companies as our clients and as such we have gained a reputation for Honesty and Quality.

We will make a professional judgement on what you need PAT Tested AND how often.

We are happy to be marked on the quality of our PAT Testing and VERIFIED customer reviews can be found on our checkatrade page.

What is Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)?

Portable Appliance Testing ensures that all Appliances in your business that have a plug on them are safe to use. That they are Earthed when appropriate, insulated and that the structure of the Appliance is in working order and as the manufacturer guaranteed.

What does Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) involve?

A full visual inspection of items will take place (Lead, case, fuse etc.)

Full electronic test of the item will take place (Earth Reading, Insulation and Lead Check).

Each item will be clearly labelled with their Pass/Fail result and individually barcoded. Durable long-lasting tags are used on leads.

Minor repairs of items will take place (e.g. fuse replacement) otherwise the item will be reported to the appropriate member of staff and if possible safely removed.

Full report will be presented detailing each item, its precise location and result. Available in PDF and Excel.
A Reader system of the database software we use can be provided, enabling a closer examination of each asset to reassure you that we have done our work properly for no extra cost.

We cover all of south wales and further afield.

How much does Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) cost?

We will provide a fair quote based on the number of items that you have and the ease of access to them (An office is a lot easier to work in that a factory).

The price will be fair and will be calculated on the basis of how often we need to test your appliances.

We have experience in various business environments and can perform a suitable Risk assessment and PAT Testing plan to suit you.

How often does Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) take place?

This depends on the type of business you operate. Office space can be tested upwards of every 12 months whilst factory equipment and tools may require a 6 month check.
If you have a business that involves regular access to members of the public a 12 monthy check is reflected.
We are happy to provide a free risk assessment of what you need and quote accordingly.

How do I know you are good at Appliance Testing (PAT)?

We have numerous reviews on checkatrade.com, we also provide a PAT Testing service for Cardiff and Vale health board amongst other large organisations. We also have a reputation for transparency.
We will be open and honest with you about cost and the regularity of your testing. All quotes will be explained fully. We will not shirk on quality, but be warned you will find VERY cheap prices out there. However I would doubt that they will do the job as professionally as us.
